1 cup unsalted butter
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch pan with grease or parchment paper.
  • Melt butter and chocolate together until smooth, then cool slightly.
  • Whisk together sugars and eggs until frothy, then stir in vanilla.
  • Fold in melted chocolate mixture gently.
  • Sift flour, cocoa, and salt; fold into batter.
  • Stir in optional nuts or chocolate chips.
  • Pour batter into pan and smooth top.
  • Bake 30–35 minutes until edges are set and a few crumbs remain on toothpick.
  • Cool at least 20 minutes, then cut into squares.
