Golden fried chicken topped with melted cheese, tucked into toasted buns with sauce and pickles — the ultimate crispy sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless chicken thighs or breasts

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 12 tsp hot sauce (optional)

  • 1 ½ cups flour

  • ½ cup cornstarch

  • 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp cayenne (optional)

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, mozzarella)

  • 4 sandwich buns

  • Pickles, lettuce, slaw (optional)

  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Marinate chicken in buttermilk, salt, pepper, paprika, and hot sauce for 2+ hours.

  • Mix flour, cornstarch, and spices in one bowl; beat eggs in another.

  • Dredge chicken in flour, egg, and flour again. Rest 10 minutes.

  • Fry in 350°F oil for 5–7 minutes until golden and cooked through.

  • Top hot chicken with cheese to melt.

  • Toast buns with butter. Assemble sandwiches with sauce, chicken, and toppings.

Notes

Serve hot. Can be made with baked or air-fried chicken. Add slaw for crunch or honey drizzle for sweet-spicy flavor.
